Meet the Coach

At Kuku Tennis Academy, players are coached by Abiola Kuku, a former ITF, ATP and Davis Cup player who now works as a tennis coach in Sugar Land. Coach Kuku’s approach is to develop well-rounded players, so the technical, physical and mental sides of the game are trained together. The program also teaches values such as respect, responsibility, hard work, teamwork and resilience, on and off the court.

Tennis Lessons by Age

We offer four programs, so there is a starting point for every age and level.

  • Children, ages 5 to 8. Our children’s tennis program offers beginner lessons for kids, including those who have never held a racquet. Groups stay small, and coaches teach the proper grip, swing and stance while building hand-eye coordination through engaging drills.
  • Juniors, ages 9 to 12. The junior tennis program is for players who already know the basics. Coaches start by finding each player’s strengths and gaps, then build a training plan around them. They work through the forehand, backhand, serve and volleys in detail and teach how a match unfolds.
  • Youth, ages 13 to 17. The youth tennis program is our advanced and elite level. It mixes individual drills with group work, regular match play and mental skills training. Most players move up from the junior program, and every newcomer is assessed individually.
  • Private lessons, all ages. Private tennis lessons pair one coach with one player and build a plan around that player’s goals. They suit adults from complete beginners upward, and children from age 5.

Not sure which level fits? Compare all four on our tennis programs page, or see the days, times and prices on the tennis lesson packages page.

Holiday Tennis Camps

When school is out, our holiday tennis camps keep young players on court. Camps run through the year: the summer tennis camp, spring break tennis camp, fall break tennis camp, Thanksgiving tennis camp, winter break tennis camp and MLK holiday tennis camp. Each camp is led by experienced coaches and held in Sugar Land at First Colony Middle School. Players who want match experience can also look at our tennis tournaments.
